Joao Cancelo, a fullback for Manchester City, has now been loaned to Bayern Munich.
The 28-year-old signs on for the remainder of the campaign with the option to sign on indefinitely for 70 million euros (£61.5 million) in the summer.
Cancelo said during a news conference that his choice was influenced by the recent lack of playing time.
The Portugal international played 98 times in the Premier League after moving from Juventus to City in 2019.
Cancelo continued, "There were rumors that my relationship with Pep [Guardiola] wasn't the best, but the truth is I wanted to play more.
In February 2022, he agreed to a new five-year contract with the Premier League champions, extending his stay at Etihad Stadium through 2027. He insisted that this was not his "last exit" from Manchester.
He said, "I wanted to start this new experience as soon as I could. "I had a good experience at City, and since I still have a contract there, I don't regard this as my ultimate exit.
I'm going to concentrate exclusively on the next five months and see what occurs.
He had previously been considered one of City's key players because of his ability to slide inside and function as a playmaker when City controlled the ball. Under City manager Pep Guardiola, he has won two league titles and the EFL Cup.
He was selected for the past two seasons' PFA Premier League team of the year based on his performances.
He only started three games since the World Cup, though, and his reduced playing time coincided with the rise of Rico Lewis and Nathan Ake's better form. He now joins the German champions.
The past two times Cancelo played, Southampton and Manchester United both defeated the team.
The player said, "Bayern is a fantastic club, one of the best in the world. "I am well aware that this squad strives for victory, and having the opportunity to play on a team with such exceptional players gives me tremendous incentive.
"I am also motivated by a desire for success. I'll do my absolute best for Bayern."
